[Properties] This product is in the shape of irregularly expanded blocks with finger-like branches. The surface is brown-black or tan. The texture is light and vesicular, the edge of the cross section is brown-black, the center is brown-yellow, finely granular, and the vascular bundles are scattered. The aroma is unique and the taste is slightly spicy.

【Identification】 The powder of this product is brown. There are numerous starch granules, which are oval, elliptical, triangular-oval, quasi-circular or irregular in shape, with a diameter of 5 to 40 μm. They have hilums located at the smaller end, and some are in the shape of cracks, with some having obvious stratification. Occasionally, clumps of gelatinized starch granules are seen. Oil cells and resin cells are scattered in the parenchyma, containing light yellow oil droplets or dark reddish-brown substances. The fibers are bundled or scattered, with blunt tips, a few forked, and one side wavy or serrated. They are 15 to 40 μm in diameter, with slightly thick walls that are non-lignified, with oblique fine pores, and thin transverse septa are often visible. Ladder-like, spiral and reticulated ducts are common, and a few are annular ducts with a diameter of 15 to 70 μm. Tubular cells containing dark reddish-brown substances can sometimes be seen next to the ducts or fibers, with a diameter of 12 to 20 μm.

[Preparation] Take clean dried ginger and scald it with sand according to the blanching method (Appendix Ⅱ D) until it swells and the surface turns brown.
