[Original form] Alpinia galanga, also known as: cardamom flower (Guihai Yuhengzhi).

[Habitat distribution] Grown beside mountain streams and in thickets. Distributed in Guangdong, Guangxi, Yunnan, Taiwan and other places. Produced in Guangxi.

[Properties] The dry rhizome is cylindrical, much-branched, 8 to 12 cm long and 2 to 3 cm in diameter. The surface is reddish brown or dark purple, with longitudinal wrinkles, wavy light yellow leaf scars, forming links, internodes 3 to 6 mm long, and root fibrous scars on the underside of the rhizome. The texture is tough and not easy to break. The cross section is fibrous and light yellow. The cortex accounts for 2/3. The endodermis is obvious and the vascular bundles are visible as stars. The wood is often separated from the bark and is darker in color. It has a fragrant aroma and a spicy taste.

【Functions and indications】 "Guangxi Chinese Medicine Annals": "Warms the stomach, dispels cold, and relieves pain. Treats heart and stomach pain, cold stomach, and vomiting and diarrhea caused by indigestion."

[Usage and Dosage] For oral use: decocted in water, 0.8-1.5 qian; or made into pills or powder.
