[Source] Medicinal material source: The seeds of BrassicachinensisL., a plant of the cruciferous family.

[Original form] Green vegetables are annual or biennial herbs, 25-70cm tall. The plant is smooth, glabrous and powdery. The stem is erect and branched. Basal leaves are obovate, 20-30cm long, solid, dark green, shiny, gradually narrowed at the base into a wide petiole, fleshy, white or light green; stem leaves are oblong or broadly lanceolate, 8-15cm long, 3-8cm wide, base auriculate, wide, entire, slightly powdery. The raceme is terminal and conical, and the axis of the inflorescence gradually extends after flowering; there are 4 sepals, light green, with umbels at the base; there are 4 petals, light yellow, with umbels at the base; there are 4 petals, light yellow, the petals are elliptical or nearly round, 8-10mm long, with short claws at the base; there are 6 stamens, 2 of which are long and short, the long stamens are 6-6.5mm long, the short stamens are 4-4.5mm long, and the filaments are linear; there is 1 pistil, the ovary is cylindrical, the style is thin, the stigma is enlarged and capitate. The silique is cylindrical, 2-6cm long, with a thin beak of 8-12mm, obvious ribs in the middle of the fruit valve, and visible reticular patterns. The seeds are spherical, purple-brown or yellow-brown, and 1-1.5mm in diameter. The flowering period is April-May, and the fruiting period is May-June.

【Habitat distribution】Native to China. It is now widely cultivated throughout the country for use as vegetables.

【Chemical composition】 The seeds contain oil, which contains a large amount of erucic acid, linoleic acid and linolenic acid.

【Pharmacological action】 Seed oil can reduce high cholesterol in the blood and liver of rats. This oil promotes lipid transport in the blood and tissues of rats, leading to a decrease in cholesterol.
