[Original form] It is a plant of the Lamiaceae family, the annual herb, 20-60cm tall. The stem is erect, quadrangular, and covered with long bristles and short soft hairs at the nodes. Leaves opposite; petiole 1-2.5cm long, pubescent; leaf blade ovate-lanceolate or lanceolate, 3-8.5cm long, 1.5-4cm wide, with acute or acuminate apex, base tapering or broad cuneate margin; inflorescence with many flowers, densely packed, axillary; bracteoles lanceolate, 3-6mm long, apex thorny, margin with bristles; calyx bell-shaped, about 1cm long, bristly outside, pubescent inside, calyx teeth 5, about 5mm long, apex with long thorns; corolla white, yellow or pinkish purple, about 1.4cm long, upper lip ovate, apex obtuse, with several teeth, bristly outside, lower lip 3-lobed, middle lobe slightly larger, apex slightly concave; stamens 4, all extending to under the upper lip, filaments hairy below, anthers 2-chambered, with cilia; ovary 4-lobed, stigma 2-lobed; disk enlarged in front like a finger. Nutlets obovate-triangular, scaly. The flowering period is from July to September, and the fruiting period is from August to October.

[Habitat distribution] Ecological environment: It grows in open places such as forest edges, roadsides, field edges, bushes or grasslands. In the mountains of southwest my country, it can grow at an altitude of 4000m.

[Chemical composition] The leaves contain galiridoside, harpagide, gluroside, 6-desoxyharpagide and 5-hydroxy-acetylgaliridoside.

【Nature and flavor】 Sweet; slightly bitter; slightly cold

【Functions and indications】 Clears away heat and detoxifies; improves eyesight and removes cataracts. It is used for red, swollen and painful eyes; cataract; syphilis; sores

[Usage and Dosage] For oral use: decocted in water, 3-9g. For external use, apply appropriate amount by pounding it; or grind it into powder and apply it.
