The cymes are arranged in spikes along the upper part of the branches; bisexual and female flowers are dioecious; bisexual flowers develop normally; female flowers are more degenerate, with shorter corollas and rudimentary stamens; pedicels are 2-4.5(-5)mm long; calyx is tubular-bell-shaped, covered with sparse soft hairs, with obvious glandular dots in the fruiting period, and the upper lip has ciliate teeth; the corolla is red-purple or purple, and also white; the bisexual flowers are about 5mm long, extending out of the calyx, with a split lower lip; the female flowers are about the same length as the calyx, with a nearly straight lower lip and covered with short soft hairs; 4 stamens. The nutlets are oval, dark brown, about 1 mm long and smooth. Flowering and fruiting period is September.
