[Source] Medicinal material source: the whole herb of Thymus dioica, a plant of the Lamiaceae family.

[Original form] Thyme dioecious, semi-shrub. The stem is short and much branched; the sterile branches mostly grow from the top or sides of the stem, are underdeveloped, and covered with short soft hairs; the flower stems are well developed, up to 30 cm high, slightly curved, and the larger ones are often branched and covered with soft hairs. The leaves are oblong-elliptic or linear-oblong, 1-2.8cm long, 1-6.5mm wide, with acute or obtuse apex, base gradually narrowing into a short petiole, entire or with 1-2 pairs of inconspicuous small teeth on the upper part of the edge, glabrous or sparsely pubescent on both sides, and glandular dots small and obvious on the lower side. The cymes are arranged in spikes along the upper part of the branches; bisexual and female flowers are dioecious; bisexual flowers develop normally; female flowers are more degenerate, with shorter corollas and rudimentary stamens; pedicels are 2-4.5(-5)mm long; calyx is tubular-bell-shaped, covered with sparse soft hairs, with obvious glandular dots in the fruiting period, and the upper lip has ciliate teeth; the corolla is red-purple or purple, and also white; the bisexual flowers are about 5mm long, extending out of the calyx, with a split lower lip; the female flowers are about the same length as the calyx, with a nearly straight lower lip and covered with short soft hairs; 4 stamens. The nutlets are oval, dark brown, about 1 mm long and smooth. Flowering and fruiting period is September.

[Habitat distribution] Ecological environment: grows on slopes, basins, ravines and waterside.

【Function and indication】It can release heat and clear away dampness. Mainly used for colds; headaches; lung heat cough and asthma; indigestion; stomachache; abdominal pain, vomiting and diarrhea; rheumatic pain
