The efficacy and function of senna leaves

Senna is a laxative, and when used, it has certain health and medicinal effects on people. However, when using senna, it is necessary to understand the efficacy and effects of senna in advance, and the dosage of senna must also be clear. Otherwise, if the dosage is too much, not only will the therapeutic effect of the drug itself be lost, but it will also cause the disease to worsen.

Senna is a laxative drug. We must pay attention to the dosage of senna when using it. Under normal circumstances, the efficacy and function of senna is still very large. This senna has the taste of sweet, bitter, and cold, and it also has the effect of entering the large intestine meridian and purging and removing stagnation. It can also help people treat heat-stagnation constipation and some habitual constipation. Most of them can be taken alone. In addition, senna leaves can also help people treat edema and abdominal distension in medicine.

For the treatment of acute pancreatitis, cholecystitis, cholelithiasis and gastrointestinal bleeding: generally take 4 capsules of senna leaf capsules (each capsule contains 2.5g of crude drug) 3 times a day. Take one more dose if there is no bowel movement within 24 hours. For constipation: Generally use 3-6g of dried senna leaves per day. In severe cases, increase to 10g. Soak in boiling water before taking. Used to promote early recovery of intestinal function after surgery: Soak 4g of senna leaves in water and take orally.

It can be used before anorectal surgery to replace cleansing enema: fast in the afternoon of the day before surgery, and take 10g of senna leaves soaked in boiled water at 3 pm. Treatment of postpartum constipation: Take 2.5 qian of senna leaves, mix with about 150 ml of boiling water, wait for 3-5 minutes, discard the residue and take it all at once. If constipation lasts too long, soak the residue again after 10 minutes. 100 cases were treated and most of them showed improvement after just one dose. A few people experience mild lower abdominal pain after taking the medicine. No adverse effects such as decreased milk, increased lochia, or general discomfort were observed; and after defecation, the uterus recovered well and the lochia decreased. However, people with weak spleen and stomach should not take it.

The hemostatic effect is effective for gastric and duodenal bleeding. Use the aqueous extract of this product to spray on the bleeding area of the stomach under a gastroscope, and direct observation will show an immediate hemostatic effect. Intraperitoneal injection of 200 mg/kg senna glycosides can significantly shorten the bleeding time of mice. Oral administration of senna leaves can increase the platelet count and fibrinogen content, and shorten the coagulation time, thromboplastin time, plasma recalcification time, and clot contraction time. In addition, the protective effect of this product on gastric mucosal damage in rats induced by hydrochloric acid and indomethacin is also beneficial for the prevention and treatment of gastric and duodenal bleeding.

When using senna leaves, if the dosage is too large, it can cause diarrhea in people. Therefore, when using this senna leaf, the effect on it varies from person to person. Some people have used 10 grams and have no laxative effect or adverse reactions. However, some people have huge reactions after using just a little, so we must understand the effects and functions of senna before using it.
