[Source] Medicinal material source: the whole herb of Cyperus rotundus.

[Original form] Lake melon grass, an annual short clump of herbs, 5-20cm tall. Rootless drama. Culms slender, flat, pubescent. Leaves are basal, papery, narrowly linear, 1/4-1/2 the length of the culm, 1-2 mm wide, with involute margins and caudate tip; the lowest leaf sheath is bladeless. There are 2-3 leaf-like bracts, longer than the inflorescence, without bract sheath, and with a caudate apex; the bracteoles are bristle-like. Inflorescence 2-3, rarely 4, clustered, ovate, 2-5mm long, about 3mm wide, with numerous spirally arranged scales and spikelets; scales oblanceolate, about 2mm long, with caudate tip, light green, with brown stripes; spikelets cylindrical, 2-5mm long, with 2 scalelets and 1 bisexual flower; scalelets alternate, with several veins, the upper one with 1 bisexual flower; spikelet axis base with magnetic nodes, falling off; 2 stamens, anthers oblong; stigmas 3, style slender, pubescent. The nutlets are oblong-obovate, about 1 mm long, three-edged, slightly curved, with a small short tip at the tip, brown-yellow in color, and with fine wrinkles on the surface. Flowering and fruiting period is August to October.
