Leaves are bifid; nutrient leaves have long petioles, 10-15cm long; leaf blades are slightly pentagonal, herbaceous, 12-20cm long, 15-18cm wide, short and gradually pointed at the apex, and pinnately divided three times; there are about 6 pairs of pinnae, the lowest pair of pinnae is the largest and petiolate; the terminal pinnae or lobes are elliptical, with neat sharp serrations on the edges; the leaf veins are obvious, reaching the serrations. The spore leaves emerge from the petiole, which is often higher than the nutrient leaves. The sporangium spike is conical, up to 10 cm long, and bipinnate; the sporangium is spherical, sessile, transversely fissured, and the spores are tetrahedral.
