[Source] Medicinal material source: The root bark of Acanthopanax affine of the Araliaceae family.

【Original form】 Shrub, 0.3-3m high. The bark is gray-brown and falls off in thin flakes; the twigs are sparsely covered with short thorns or without thorns. The leaves have 5 leaflets, rarely 3-4 petioles 5-12cm long, often with thorns, with short soft hairs when young; the leaflets are elliptical, oblong, lanceolate, oblanceolate or obovate, 3-7cm long, 1.5-2.5cm wide, with short acuminate tip, narrowly pointed base, sparsely bristled on veins above, densely pubescent below when young, then falling off and sparsely curved to glabrous, with simple or double serrations on margins, often with bristles at the tooth tips, and 6-10 pairs of lateral veins; the petiolules are 3-5mm long. Umbel is single and terminal, rarely 1-2 lateral umbels, about 2.5cm in diameter, with many flowers; peduncle is 4-12cm long, densely pubescent when young; pedicel is 8-10mm long, pubescent; flowers are yellowish green; calyx is glabrous, margin is entire; petals are 5, triangular-ovate; stamens are 5; ovary is 3-5-chambered; styles are 3-5, free; disk is conical. The fruit is spherical, black, 6-8mm in diameter, and the persistent style is 2mm long. The flowering period is July and the fruiting period is October.
