[Source] The whole herb of the Begonia species Begonia variegated . It can be harvested throughout the year and used fresh or dried.

[Original form] Perennial succulent herb, about 60 to 80 cm tall. The rhizome is thick and has nodes. The stem has reddish-brown long soft hairs mixed with a few white hairs, and the nodes are swollen. The leaves are alternate, obliquely heart-shaped, gradually pointed at the apex, more or less shallowly lobed, with broad triangular lobes, sharp tips, small teeth and eyelashes on the edges, green above with colored rings, and deep red veins. The inflorescence is axillary, with 8 to 10 flowers; the flowers are scarlet. With coarse hairs; male flowers have 4 tepals; female flowers have 5 tepals. The capsule has three wings, two short and one long. Flowering period is September.

[Habitat distribution] Grown under forests and in shady and moist places beside streams. Distributed in Yunnan, Guangxi, Fujian and other places.
