The efficacy and function of the root of big tea

Everyone is familiar with the medicinal root of big tea, of course some people are relatively unfamiliar with it. In fact, the root of the big tea is a relatively common Chinese medicinal material. So what exactly does the tea root do?

[Other names] Hu Manchu (Records of Medicinal Plants in Lingnan), big tea root (Atlas of Medicinal Plants in Guangxi), Gelsemium elegans root, pig ginseng (Records of Chinese Medicines in Kuangxi).

[Source] It is the root or root bark of the plant Lepidoptera: Loganaceae . It can be harvested throughout the year, remove the stems, wash and dry.

[Habitat distribution] Produced in Guangdong, Guangxi, Fujian and other places.

[Properties] The dry roots are cylindrical, slightly curved, gray-brown on the surface, with fine longitudinal lines, many transverse cracks, and a few lateral root marks. It is hard, not easy to break, and has a cracked cross section. The cross section shows that the cortex is gray-brown with obvious cambium, the xylem is light yellow, the vascular groups are radial, the vascular groups are clear and have small hollows, and the xylem rays are narrower than the vascular groups and are dark yellow.

【Nature and flavor】 "Guangxi Chinese Materia Medica": "It tastes bitter, is cold in nature, and is highly toxic."

【Functions and indications】Reduce swelling, relieve pain, and set bones. Treat carbuncle, swelling, bruises and fractures.

[Usage and Dosage] For external use: soak in wine and rub, decoct in water for fumigation and washing, boil into a paste or mash for application.

【Note】 Do not take internally.

[Additional prescription] ① For treating unknown swelling and phlegm nodules: 2 liang of big tea root, 2 liang of wolfsbane, 3 liang of ground ivy, 1 liang of pus-absorbing ointment, 2 liang of false chrysanthemum root, 5 qian of chicken bone incense, 3 liang of nine dried vegetables, 1 liang of Liaogewang, and 1 jin and 4 liang of raw oil. Soak the above medicines for four to five days, put them in a pot and boil until the medicine is dry, remove the residue, add one pound of medicinal oil and eight ounces of yellow ochre, and refine them into a soft hard ointment. Apply it to the affected area, which has the effect of relieving pain, swelling and toxicity.
