[Source] The stems and leaves of the Rubiaceae plant. Harvested in summer and autumn.

[Original form] Perennial woody vine. The stem bark is reddish brown; the branchlets are quadrangular with stipule rings. Leaves are opposite, ovate-oblong or ovate-elliptic, 7-12 cm long, 3-5 cm wide, acuminate or acute at apex, broadly cuneate at base, entire; petiole about 1 cm long; with stipules, membranous. The flowers are terminal loose corymbose cymes; the calyx is 5-lobed, one of which is often enlarged into an obovate leaf-like shape, white, petiolate, 7-8 cm long, 5-6 cm wide; the corolla is funnel-shaped, yellow, covered with filamentous hairs on the outside, with 5 lobes, short-pointed; there are 5 stamens and a fleshy disk; the ovary is inferior, 2-chambered, and each chamber has many ovules. The berries are oval, with a stalk about 1 cm long and reddish brown. Flowering period is from March to April. Fruiting period is from May to August.

[Habitat distribution] Growing on hillsides, valleys, riverside bushes and sparse woods. Distributed in Yunnan, Guangxi, Guangdong, Taiwan and other places.
