[Original form] Shrub or small tree, 2-3.5(-5)m high. The bark is reddish brown or black-gray; the young branches are red, slightly quadrangular, and covered with short soft hairs; the old branches are purple-red with round yellow-brown lenticels. Winter buds terminal and axillary, narrowly conical.
