【Other name】 Asarum

[Source] It is the root of Asarum longiflorum, a plant of the Aristolochiaceae family. Dig up in autumn, take the roots, wash them, and dry them in the shade or in the sun.

[Original form] Perennial herb, 10 to 15 cm high. The rhizome is short, with many slender fibrous roots in clusters. The surface is light yellow and fragrant. The leaves are long-petioled, oblong-cordate or broadly triangular, about 10 cm long and 8 cm wide, gradually pointed at the apex, ear-shaped at the base, and often purple underneath. The flower is solitary, axillary, dark purple, about 5 cm long, with 3 lobes, radially symmetrical; the floral tube is contracted at the throat and slightly curved; there are 12 stamens; and 6 styles. Capsule fleshy, indehiscent.

[Habitat distribution] Grown in the shade and wet places under the forest. Distributed in Shaanxi and other places.

【Nature and flavor】Pungent, warm, slightly toxic.

【Functions and indications】Warming the meridians and dispelling cold, anti-inflammatory, analgesic, hemostatic, blood circulation and swelling. Treat swelling and pain caused by fractures, arthritis, toothache, traumatic bleeding, shock, and coma caused by craniocerebral injury.

[Usage and Dosage] For oral administration: decoct in water or grind into powder, 1 to 2 fen, can add appropriate amount of wine.

[Additional prescription] Analgesia during fracture reduction: 1 to 2 fen of Huang Xixin. Grind into powder and take with warm water.
