[Original form] Cardamine sphenanthera is a perennial herb, 35-70cm tall. Rhizome stout, usually creeping, densely rooted. The stem is stout, erect, unbranched, with grooves on the surface, glabrous below and sparsely pubescent above. Odd-pinnate compound leaves; basal leaves with long petioles, usually withering and disappearing early; 4-5 stem leaves with petioles, petioles 1.5-6.5cm long, each usually with 4-5 pairs or 3-6 pairs of leaflets, terminal and lateral leaflets are ovate-lanceolate or lanceolate, 5-10cm long, 1-3cm wide, acuminate or long acuminate at the apex, serrated at the margin, terminal leaflet base cuneate, without petiole, lateral leaflet base with unequal sides or more or less extending downward into wings, leaflets thin papery, usually dark green later, with scattered short soft hairs on both sides or sometimes glabrous. The raceme is terminal, with many flowers; 4 sepals, green or lavender; 4 petals, purple, lavender or purple-red, oblong-cuneate, 8-14mm long; 6 stamens, 4 long and 2 short, the long stamens are 6-9mm long, and the short stamens are 5-7mm long; 1 pistil, the ovary is cylindrical, the style is short, and the stigma is oblate and slightly larger than the style. The siliques are linear and slightly flat, 3-4cm long, with flat petals, sometimes purple, sparsely covered with short soft hairs or without hairs. The seeds are oval, about 3 mm long, brown, and without edges. The flowering period is from April to August, and the fruiting period is from May to September.
