[Original form] Rough brown bamboo, clumping shrub, about 2m high, or higher. The stem is cylindrical, with nodes and about 2 cm in diameter. Leaves are usually palmately 4-lobed; petiole 15-33cm long, convex on both sides; lobes broadly lanceolate to acicular, 20-25cm long, 2.5-4.5cm wide, with 3-4 ribs, short acuminate at the apex, with a sharp tip, only with fine serrations on the edges; with triangular halberds at the apex; leaf sheath fibers are brown, slender, and interwoven into a neat net. Inflorescence axillary, 15-25cm long, three-branched, the axis of the inflorescence initially covered with light brown scales; 3 spathes on the peduncle, tubular, 5-7cm long, narrowly triangular at the apex, split on one side; branches open, often branched again; flowers dioecious; female calyx bell-shaped, 3-toothed at the apex; a 4mm long narrow cylinder at the base of the calyx between the calyx and the corolla; when fruiting, the corolla is flat, 3-lobed, and the lobes are broadly ovate. No fruit seen. Flowering period is October.
