[Source] Medicinal material source: It is the lichen of Usnea coarse-barked, a plant of the Usneaceae family.

[Original form] The lichen body is filamentous, pendulous, hard, and more than 30 cm long. The surface is light gray-green or light yellow-green with earthy brown tint and dull. No primary appressorium was seen, only secondary appressorium. The main branches are extremely short and inconspicuous; the branches above the main branches are filamentous; the secondary branches are equal in length and dichotomous, with few branches, often extending in a single parallel manner, and the sides of the branches are densely covered with small cilia of varying lengths, 2-5mm long, sometimes up to 1cm; there are no papillae on the branches, and there are annular cracks or they become bran-like due to cortical rupture, and often peel off, resulting in a very rough surface. The cortex is thin and light yellow-green, and the medulla is white and loose. The central axis is pale white, the cross section is oblate, elastic, and accounts for about 1/3 of the branch diameter.

[Habitat distribution] Ecological environment: grows on the trunks or branches of coniferous trees.

【Functions and indications】Hemostasis and tissue regeneration; regulating menstruation; clearing the liver and improving eyesight. Mainly used for traumatic bleeding; blood in stool; irregular menstruation; metrorrhagia; hypertension; corneal opacity; carbuncle

[Usage and Dosage] For oral use: decocted in water, 6-9g. For external use: take appropriate amount, decoct in water for washing; or grind into powder for application.
