[Source] It is the whole herb of Shimodaju of the Asteraceae family. Harvest in autumn.

[Original morphology] Perennial leathery plant, 30 to 100 cm tall. The stem is erect, slightly curved at the base, with roots at the nodes touching the ground. The upper branches are purple-red with fine hairs, and the lower part is smooth. Leaves are opposite; leaves at the base are smaller and fall off when flowering; middle leaves are ovate or ovate-elliptical, 4-20 cm long, 3-12 cm wide, with sharp or blunt tips, rounded cuneate or cuneate bases, circular serrations or large serrations on the edges, and sparsely short hairs on both sides; petioles are 1-6 cm long. The capitula has stalks, 1-3 cm long and 7-10 mm in diameter; the involucre is semicircular, with 2 layers of bracts, narrowly elliptic, about 5 mm long, obtuse at the apex, and slightly fused at the base; the flowers are tubular, 2.5 mm long, bell-shaped at the top, and 5-toothed; the style is branched and extended. Achenes are obovate, about 4 mm long, obtuse at the top, narrow at the bottom, with glandular dots or tubercles all over; there are 4 pappus, about 1 mm long, connected into a ring at the base. Flowering period is from September to October.

[Habitat distribution] Grown near water and in low wetlands. It is distributed in most parts of our country.

[Clinical Application] For the treatment of acute infectious hepatitis: Take 3-4 liang of fresh Xiatian chrysanthemum (or 1-2 liang of dried product), decoct in water and take, 1 dose per day.
