【English name】 SEMEN TORREYAE

[Other names] Torreya grandis, Torreya grandis, Torreya grandis, Wild fir, Torreya grandis

[Source] This product is the dried mature seeds of Torreya grandis Fort., a plant of the Taxaceae family. The seeds are harvested in autumn when they are ripe, the fleshy aril is removed, washed and dried.

[Properties] This product is oval or oblong, 2-3.5cm long and 1.3-2cm in diameter. The surface is grayish yellow or light yellowish brown with longitudinal wrinkles. One end is blunt and round with an oval hilum visible, and the other end is slightly pointed. The seed cortex is hard and about 1mm thick. The surface of the kernel is wrinkled, the endosperm is gray-brown and membranous; the endosperm is yellow-white, enlarged and rich in oil. It has a faint smell and tastes slightly sweet and astringent.

[Preparation] Remove the shell and take out the kernel. Crush when using.
