[Source] Medicinal material source: The fruit of Cornus officinalis of the Cornaceae family.

[Original form] Deciduous tree, 4-8m high. The bark is dark brown; the branches are opposite, and the young branches are purple-brown. Leaves are opposite; petiole is 1-1.5cm long; leaf blade is papery, ovate-lanceolate to oblong, 7-10cm long, 3.3-5.8cm wide, acuminate at apex, cuneate at base, covered with appressed white pubescence on the underside, 5-7 pairs of lateral veins, regular, with gray beards in vein axils. Umbels are axillary, blooming before leaves; with 4 small bracts below, broadly ovate; flowers are yellow; pedicels are 0.6-1.5cm long, and are densely covered with fine hairs as well as the calyx tube; calyx is 4-lobed, with lobes lanceolate; petals are 4, lanceolate or ovate; stamens are 4, alternate with petals, filaments are short, purple, anthers are nearly spherical, 2-chambered; disk is cushion-shaped, fleshy; ovary is inferior, and receptacle is bell-shaped. The drupe is oblong, 6-8mm long, about 4mm in diameter, and dark brown when ripe. The flowering period is April and the fruiting period is September.

[Habitat distribution] Ecological environment: Growing on the edge of forests or in forests at an altitude of 750-2500m.
