[Original form] Euonymus thunbergii shrub, up to 6m tall. Branchlets quadrangular, sometimes narrowly winged. Leaves are opposite; petioles are extremely short or sessile; oblong-elliptic or narrowly elliptic, 5-11cm long, 2-4cm wide, with long acuminate tips and margins with obvious sharp and dense serrations. The cyme has 1-3 flowers, the peduncle is slightly square, up to 1 cm long; the flowers are dark yellow, about 7 mm in diameter, and 4 in number; the stamens have no filaments and are attached to the 4 corners of the square disk. The capsule is deeply lobed into 4 parts, with the lobes developing laterally, and usually only 1-2 lobes mature. The seeds are reddish brown, the aril is orange-yellow, and the top is narrow and ridge-like, only surrounding half of the axial surface of the seed.
