What is the dosage of licorice root?

Licorice is a very common Chinese medicinal material. The medicinal value of licorice is very high. It has a good therapeutic effect on many diseases. Weak spleen and stomach or fatigue can be treated with licorice. Roasted licorice can be used in many places in daily life, but in different places, the dosage is usually different. The following introduces the dosage of roasted licorice.

Dosage of Licorice

To roast licorice, fry raw licorice with honey in a ratio of 100:25 until the licorice turns golden yellow and does not stick to the paper when placed on it. Honey-roasted licorice is warm in nature, and has the functions of assisting the spleen, replenishing qi, harmonizing the stomach, relieving anxiety and relieving pain. Modern research shows that licorice contains glycyrrhizin, glycyrrhetinic acid, glycyrrhizic polysaccharides and other chemical components, which have anti-inflammatory and anti-allergic effects, can regulate the body's immune function, and have anti-tumor and analgesic effects. Experimental studies have shown that roasted licorice has better anticonvulsant and analgesic effects than raw licorice.

Roasted licorice root is also better than raw licorice root in preventing barium chloride-induced arrhythmia in rats. After raw licorice is roasted with honey, 20% of glycyrrhizic acid is lost, which can avoid pseudoaldosteronism caused by raw licorice. At the same time, the content of glycyrrhizin was slightly increased. Glycyrrhizin is the active ingredient of licorice that has the effect of replenishing qi. Modern pharmacological experiments have confirmed the pharmacological effects of Sijunzi Decoction, which is composed of roasted licorice, ginseng, Atractylodes macrocephala, and Poria cocos, in tonifying the middle and replenishing Qi, as well as strengthening the spleen and nourishing the stomach. It also provides a pharmacological basis for the use of roasted licorice in the treatment of arrhythmias.

Experiments have confirmed that roasted licorice root combined with white peony root can transform yin with acid and sweet, and have a synergistic effect in relieving urgency and alleviating stress. The above pharmacological experiments show that the efficacy of fried licorice is different from that of raw licorice.

Water-roasted licorice is made by dipping the raw licorice in water and frying it until dry, then dipping it in water again and repeating the process several times until the licorice is cooked. I believe that water-roasted licorice can be used for those who need to take raw licorice for a long time to detoxify and purge but have weak constitutions, so as to avoid it being too cold. For those who want to warm and nourish the spleen and stomach but have abdominal distension and are not suitable for moisturizing with honey, use water-roasted licorice to make it nourishing without being greasy.
