【Original form】 Evergreen or semi-evergreen shrub. The stems are purple-red, with tufts of hair growing in clusters at the young stage. The leaves are elliptic-oblong to ovate-lanceolate, 3-6 cm long, with pointed apex, cuneate base, glabrous and wrinkled above, and distinct veins on the below, 5-12 pairs; the petiole is 3-5 mm long, with a slightly red midrib. Corymbs, terminal, densely covered with fine hairs, 3-5 cm in diameter; calyx green, hairy, 5 calyx teeth, short-pointed, calyx tube fused to ovary; 5 petals, white; 20 stamens, white filaments, purple-red anthers; ovary semi-inferior, several styles, free. The fruit is nearly spherical, about 5 mm in diameter, red, shiny, and has 2 to 3 cores. Flowering period is June. Fruiting period is October.

[Habitat distribution] Grown on rocks on mountain tops, etc. Distributed in Yunnan, Sichuan and other places.

[Nature and flavor] Cool in nature, bitter in taste, non-toxic.

【Functions and indications】 Eliminate wind-heat. Treats dry cough and aphonia, jaundice due to spleen dampness, intestinal bleeding and oliguria.

[Usage and Dosage] For oral use: decoct in water, 0.5 to 1 liang.

[Additional prescription] ①Treat dry cough and aphonia: Radix Glehniae, Scrophularia ningpoensis, Ophiopogon japonicus, and Terminalia chebula. Decoction together in water.
