[Original form] Perennial herb. No fragrance, no powder. The rhizome is very short and sends out a bunch of thick and long lateral roots downward. The leaf cluster does not completely wither in winter; the petiole is extremely short or nearly as long as the leaf blade, with broad wings; the leaf blade is obovate-elliptic to oblanceolate, 4-10(-13)cm long, 1.2-5cm wide, with a rounded and obtuse tip, rarely with a small abrupt tip, the base gradually narrows and extends down to the petiole into a wing-like shape, the edge has nearly neat triangular small teeth, and the texture is thick and hairless. The pedicel is 1-2 cm long, slightly bent downward during flowering, and erect when fruiting. The calyx is cup-shaped, about 5 mm long, and splits about 1/3 of the total length. The lobes are triangular or oblong, and the tip is slightly obtuse. The corolla is dark red or purple-red, with yellow around the mouth of the corolla tube, 9-11 mm long, and with obvious annular appendages at the throat. The corolla is flat, 1.8-3 in diameter, and the lobes are obcordate, 8-9.5 mm long, 6-8 mm wide, and usually deeply 2-lobed at the tip. Long-style flowers: the stamens are attached to the base of the corolla tube about 2 mm away, and the style is about 6.5 mm long; short-style flowers: the stamens are attached to the base of the corolla tube about 6.5 mm away, and the style is 2 mm long.
