【Other name】 Asarum

[Source] It is the root of Viola liliifolia, a plant of the Violaceae family. Dig up in autumn and winter, wash and dry.

[Original form] Perennial creeping herb with a slight white frost. The underground stem is short with many dark brown lateral roots; the aboveground stem is thin and weak, with no leaves at the bottom and usually unbranched. Basal leaf is 1 or absent, ovate-cordate; stem leaves are petiolate, thick papery, broadly ovate or triangular-ovate, shallowly cordate or truncated at the base, with wavy serrations on the margin, 1.5 to 4 cm long, and upper leaves are ovate-lanceolate; stipules are herbaceous, ovate or oblong, 6 mm long or shorter, with sparsely coarse teeth or entire. The flowers are bilaterally symmetrical; the sepals are 5, linear, pointed at the apex, pubescent, and with inconspicuous appendages at the base; the petals are 5, yellow, with very short spurs, about 1 mm long. The fruit is small, nearly rectangular, about 5 mm in diameter.

[Habitat distribution] Grown in streamside under forest and in shady and wet grassland. Distributed in Yunnan, Sichuan and other places.
