[Source] The seeds of Pinus koraiensis , a plant of the Pinaceae family. Harvest the fruit when it is ripe, dry it in the sun, remove the hard shell, take out the seeds, and store it in a dry place.

[Original form] Korean pine, also known as: maritime pine (Kaibao Materia Medica), Silla pine (Compendium of Materia Medica), fruit pine, red fruit pine, and Korean five-needle pine.

[Habitat distribution] It grows on moist gentle slopes or well-drained flat land, mostly in mixed forests with broad-leaved trees. Distributed in Northeast China.

[Chemical composition] This species contains 74% fatty oil, mainly oleic acid ester and linoleic acid ester. It also contains palmate tetrandrine, protein, volatile oil, etc.

【Nature and flavor】 Sweet, warm.

[entry into meridians] Enters the liver, lung, and large intestine meridians.

[Functions and indications] Nourishes fluids, extinguishes wind, moistens the lungs, lubricates the intestines, treats rheumatism, dizziness, dry cough, vomiting blood, and constipation.

[Usage and Dosage] For oral use: decocted in water, 1.5 to 3 qian; or made into paste or pills.

【Note】 "Compendium of Materia Medica" states: "Do not use this medicine if you have loose stools or loose sperm; it is also forbidden if you have damp phlegm."

[Additional prescription] ① For treating rheumatism, coldness, weakness and lack of energy, as well as injury to the five internal organs, coughing and spitting, bone steaming and night sweats, confusion, loss of appetite, spermatorrhea and loose stools: 8 liang of pine nuts, 1 jin of Ophiopogon japonicus (without core removed), 8 liang each of Cornus officinalis and Lycium barbarum, boil into a paste, and add a little refined honey. Take more than ten teaspoons every morning and evening with white soup. (Su Shi)
