[Original morphology] Elsholtzia macrophylla, an upright semi-shrub, 0.6-2.6m tall. The stems and branches are quadrangular and densely covered with grayish white short soft hairs. Leaves are opposite; petiole is 3-6cm long, densely pubescent; leaf blade is broadly ovate or nearly circular, 8-15cm long, 5.2-8.2cm wide, with pointed or caudate-acuminate apex, rounded or slightly cordate base, oblique, with blunt serrations on the margin, short pubescent on both sides, and golden glandular dots on the underside. The cymes are densely packed into pseudospikes, 6-10cm long, terminal and axillary; bracts are broadly ovate; about 3mm long, with a small cusp at the apex, pubescent on the outside, and ciliate on the margins; calyx is bell-shaped, about 3.5mm long, pubescent and glandular, with 5 calyx teeth with linear tips, and the calyx grows to 6.5mm when fruiting; corolla is yellow, about 6.5mm long, pubescent and glandular on the outside, upper lip erect, apex slightly emarginate, lower lip 3-lobed, middle lobe nearly round, margin erode-like, lateral lobes nearly oblong, apex rounded; stamens 4, the front pair is longer, extending, filaments glabrous, anthers round, 2-chambered; ovary 4-lobed, style longer than stamens, stigma 2-lobed. The nutlets are oblong, about 1 mm long, and dark brown. The flowering period is from July to October, and the fruiting period is from August to November.

[Habitat distribution] Ecological environment: Growing in grass beside small rivers, small bushes, forest edges, roadsides or open cultivated land at an altitude of 1100-2900m.

[Properties] The stem is slightly square-cylindrical, smooth and hairless; the texture is hard. The leaves are curled and wrinkled, and when flattened, they are broadly ovate or nearly round. They are usually 10-15cm long and 8-13cm wide, with a sudden tail-like acuminate tip and serrated edges; the petiole is 3-5cm long. Spike inflorescence is visible, with yellow-brown flowers. It has a slight fragrance and a slightly bitter taste.

【Functions and indications】It can release the exterior and expel the lungs; clear away heat and detoxify. It is used for wind-heat cold, cough due to heat in the mountain, sore throat, sore and swollen skin.
