【Original form】 Tree, 7-25m high. The bark is gray and smooth. Branches cylindrical, glabrous. Leaves are alternate or nearly opposite; petioles are 8-10mm long and strong; leaf blades are leathery, elliptic or ovate-elliptic, rarely lanceolate, 10-25cm long, 6-12cm wide, obtuse or mucronate at the apex, broadly cuneate to rounded at the base, glabrous on both sides; lateral veins are 7-17 pairs, connected by a velar arch at the leaf margin. Flowers are light pink or purple, 5cm in diameter; terminal panicle is 15-25cm long, arranged in a pyramid shape; pedicel is 1-1.5cm long, densely covered with yellow-brown felt hairs; calyx has 12 longitudinal ridges or grooves, with chaff-like hairs, about 13mm long, lobes are triangular, recurved, glabrous inside, except for the body scales which are larger; petals are 6, nearly round or obovate, 2.5-3.5cm long, almost not wrinkled, with short claws, about 5mm long; stamens are numerous, up to 100-200, attached to the middle and lower part of the calyx tube; ovary is spherical, 4-6-chambered, glabrous, and the style is 2-3cm long, longer than the stamens. The capsule is obovate or spherical, 2-3.8cm long, about 2cm in diameter, brown-gray, and 6-lobed. Seeds numerous, 10-15 mm long. The flowering period is from May to July, and the fruiting period is from October to November.
