[Source] Medicinal material source: the whole herb of the Polypodiaceae plant Vulgaris.

【Original morphology】Plant height 25-65cm. The rhizome is horizontal, densely covered with ovate scales, obtuse and entire. Leaves are distal; petioles are 5-15cm long, attached to the rhizome at joints; leaf blades are leathery, lanceolate, 20-50cm long, gradually pointed, gradually narrowing towards the base, cuneate and decurrent, with narrow cartilaginous margins, and curled up after drying; leaf veins are more obvious, lateral veins are raised, and the small veins in the mesh are usually branched; leaf blades are sparsely scaly on the back; sporangia are large, elliptical, usually attached near the leaf margin, and on both sides, each margin is in a row, and covered with shield-shaped septa when young.

[Habitat distribution] Ecological environment: Growing on tree trunks or rocks in mountains at an altitude of 800-2300m.

【Nature and flavor】 Bitter; Cool

【Functions and indications】 Clears away heat and detoxifies; acts as a diuretic and removes dampness; stops bleeding. It is used to treat sudden red eyes, cataracts covering the eyes, stranguria, edema, metrorrhagia, irregular menstruation, furuncles, carbuncle, and bleeding due to trauma.

[Usage and Dosage] For oral use: decocted in water, 9-15g. For external use: take appropriate amount and mash it for application; or boil it in water for washing.

[Additional prescription] Its leaves are long and lanceolate, and there are yellow sporangia on the leaf edges like golden stars, so it is called Venus Pteris.
