[Source] It is the seed kernel of millet , a plant of the Poaceae family. The corn that has been stored for a long time is called aged corn.

[Habitat distribution] Widely cultivated in northern my country.

[Chemical composition] The dry products of shelled seeds and shelled seeds contain fat 1.41% and 1.68% respectively, total nitrogen 2.48% and 2.79%, protein nitrogen 2.41% and 2.72%, ash 3.15% and 1.85%, starch 63.27% and 77.58%, and reducing sugar 2.03% and 1.98%. It is also said that the seeds contain 3% oil; the oil contains 2.39% unsaponifiable matter, 15.05% solid fatty acids, and 70.03% liquid fatty acids. There are many types of proteins, including glutenin, alcohol-soluble protein, globulin, etc. Seed protein contains a lot of glutamic acid, proline, alanine and methionine.

Its aglycone has antibacterial effect. 1:10000 can inhibit Staphylococcus aureus (penicillin-resistant strain), 1:5000 can inhibit Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli, 1:2000 can inhibit Pseudomonas aeruginosa, but it is ineffective against Bacillus subtilis.

【Functions and indications】Harmonize the stomach, benefit the kidneys, eliminate heat and detoxify. Treats spleen and stomach deficiency heat, nausea and vomiting, thirst and diarrhea. Old corn: stops diarrhea and relieves depression.

[Usage and Dosage] For oral use: decoct in water, 0.5-1 liang; or cook into porridge. For external use: grind into powder and sprinkle or boil into juice and apply.

[Additional prescription] ① Treat weak spleen and stomach qi, indigestion, vomiting and regurgitation, and inability to drink soup: grind half a liter of millet into powder, mix with water and make it into pills as big as walnuts, cook until done, add a little salt, and swallow on an empty stomach with juice.
