[Alias] Panercao (Shaanxi Chinese Herbal Medicine).

[Source] It is the whole herb of the Asteraceae plant Sophora flavescens . Harvested in spring, dried in the shade or used fresh.

[Original form] Perennial herb, 30 to 70 cm tall, containing latex. Stem erect, glabrous, branched above. Basal leaves are obovate-lanceolate or spoon-shaped, 5-10 cm long, 2-4 cm wide, obtuse at the apex, with pinnate-shaped margins, sometimes lyre-shaped pinnates, and irregular sharp serrations; stem leaves are sessile, with ear-shaped bases. The capitula is about 5 mm long, mostly integrated into cymes; the corolla is 6-8 mm long, ligulate, yellow, and the ligule is 4-6 mm long with 5 teeth. Achenes are dark brown when ripe, with white pappus.

[Habitat distribution] Growing on the slopes of low mountains and roadsides. It is distributed in most parts of our country.

【Nature and flavor】 Bitter, cool.

[Functions and indications] Treat lung abscess, mastitis, hematuria, furunculosis, and traumatic injuries.

[Usage and Dosage] For oral use: decoct in water, 2 to 3 qian. For external use: mash and apply.

[Additional prescription] ① To treat mastitis: first make an incision two inches away from the great vertebra, use a three-edged needle to draw blood, then use a cupping jar to remove the blood, then use Sophora flavescens, Taraxacum officinale, and Viola yedoensis to mash together and apply to the affected area.
