[Alias] Buckwheat Leaf Seven (Shaanxi Herbs).

[Source] It is the root and rhizome of the Polygonum multiflorum plant. Harvest from August to October.

[Original form] Tartary buckwheat (Compendium of Materia Medica), also known as: thousand-year buckwheat, wild buckwheat, Tatar Polygonum, and wild buckwheat.

[Habitat distribution] Growing in forest edges and grasslands. It is cultivated in Northeast, Northwest, Southwest and other places.

[Chemical composition] All parts contain flavonoids such as rutin, and are a rich source of flavonoids. The leaves contain rutin (dry leaves) 3.0%, 4.2%, and 5.4%, and the fruits contain 1%. Applying cobalt salts to the soil can increase the content of flavonoids such as rutin and cyanidin in this plant.

【Nature and flavor】 Sweet and bitter, neutral.

【Functions and indications】 Treat stomachache, indigestion, dysentery, strain, and pain in the waist and legs.

[Usage and Dosage] For oral use: decoct in water, 0.3-1 liang; soak in wine or grind into powder. For external use: mash and apply.

【Note】 "Compendium of Materia Medica": "Eating too much will damage the stomach, cause wind and qi, and can cause various diseases. People with jaundice should especially avoid eating too much."

[Additional prescription] ① Treat stomachache: ㈠ Three to five cents of bitter buckwheat heads. Decoction in water. (Guizhou Herbal Medicine); 2. 6 qian of bitter buckwheat heads and 3 qian of camphor root bark. Grind together into powder and mix well. Take one coin each time, three times a day, with warm water before meals. (Guiyang Folk Medicinal Herbs)
