[Source] Medicinal material source: The root of the Acer truncatum plant of the Celastraceae family.

[Original form] Acer truncatum shrub. The current year's branchlets are sometimes covered with sparse brownish-white short hairs; the winter buds are conical, 2-3mm long, with bud scales persistent at the base, sometimes short-thorny. The ovary is generally 4-5 cm long and 8-11 cm wide. The petiole is 10-18 mm long. The leaf blade is rectangular or nearly elliptic, 5-10 cm long and 3-6 cm wide, with acuminate or acute apex, broad cuneate or nearly rounded base, shallowly serrated on the upper edge and nearly entire on the lower edge. The cymes are axillary or lateral, usually with 3 flowers, and the peduncle is short, 2-5 mm long. The pedicel is 2-3 mm long, all covered with brown short hairs, with the joint at the upper part. The flowers are unisexual, and the sepals of male flowers are ovate-triangular, up to 2.5 mm long, with obtuse apex. The petals are oblong-oblanceolate, about 4 mm long and about 1.5 mm wide, and the disk is fleshy, relatively flat and entire. The stamens are nearly as long as the petals, and the filaments are papillated. The reduced pistil is 1.5-2 mm long. The female flowers are reduced, with stamens about 1.5 mm long and the pistil ovary spherical. The capsule is nearly spherical, with a diameter of 7-8mm, the calyx is persistent, and it increases significantly during the fruiting period. The seeds are crescent-shaped to semi-circular and densely covered with tubercles. The flowering period is March-April, and the fruiting period is August-September.
