Physiological characteristics

Perennial herb. The rhizome is short or elongated, sometimes up to 2 cm above the ground, cylindrical, straight or curved, 1-3 mm in diameter, with brown hairs on the root neck and clusters of slender fibrous roots. The stem is erect, simple, unbranched, scape-shaped, 25-60 cm high, and covered with long brown hairs. The leaves are clustered at the base of the stem, rosulate or pseudo-whorled, with thick papery leaves, ovate, narrowly ovate or ovate-oblong, 2-11 cm long, 1.5-5 cm wide, obtuse at the apex or with a small convex tip extending from the midrib, deeply cordate at the base, with margins entire or with sparse callose denticles, with upward-arched tricholoma, green above, glabrous or sparsely hairy, light green or sometimes more or less purplish red below, densely pubescent, especially on the veins; basal veins 5, significantly thickened and raised below, with 1-2 pairs of lateral veins in the middle and upper part of the midrib, reticulate veins slightly obvious, large mesh; petiole 1.5-6 cm long, rarely longer, wingless, densely pubescent.

The capitula usually has 3 florets, with short stalks covered with short soft hairs or sessile, arranged in discontinuous racemes at the top of the scape, the inflorescence axis is covered with dark brown short soft hairs, and has 3-4 mm long awl-shaped bracts; the involucre is cylindrical, 3-3.5 mm in diameter; the involucral bracts are about 5 layers, with longitudinal stripes on the back, glabrous, sometimes with purple-red at the apex, the outer 1-2 layers are ovate, 1.8-2 mm long, about 1 mm wide, with a pointed apex, the middle layer is nearly elliptical, 3-8 mm long, 1.5-2 mm wide, obtuse at the apex, the innermost layer is narrowly elliptical, about 11 mm long, about 2 mm wide, acuminate at the apex, long and narrow at the base, with claws, and the margin is dry and membranous; the receptacle is narrow, uneven, about 0.5 mm in diameter, and glabrous. All flowers are bisexual, white, with an almond scent when open. The corolla tube is slender, about 6 mm long, with a significantly enlarged crown rim, and 5 deep lobes above the tube mouth. The lobes are linear and nearly as long as the corolla tube; the anthers are about 4.5 mm long, blunt at the apex, and the arrow-shaped tail at the base is about 2 mm long; the style branches extend beyond the tube, about 0.5 mm long, with a blunt tip. Achenes are club-shaped, cylindrical or nearly fusiform, chestnut brown, slightly flattened, about 4 mm long, with 8 distinct longitudinal ridges and densely pubescent. The pappus are numerous, light brown, feathery, about 7 mm long, and united at the base. Flowering period is November-December.
