The leaves are large and slightly thick, opposite, elliptical to broadly ovate, 7-20 cm long, 4-10 cm wide, with short acuminate apex, broad cuneate base, coarse serrations on the margin except at the base, bright green above, yellow-green beneath; petiole 1-3 cm long, umbel terminal, spherical, up to 20 cm in diameter; pedicels pubescent; flowers extremely beautiful, white, pink, or turning blue, all sterile, with 4 sepals, broadly ovate or round, 1-2 cm long. Flowering period is summer.

[Usage and Dosage] For oral use: decoct in water, 3 to 4 qian. For external use: decoct in water for washing or grind into juice for application.

[Additional prescription] ① For treating malaria: 3 qian of Hydrangea macrophylla leaves and 2 qian of Rhizoma Dichroae, decocted in water and taken orally.
