The flowers are large, milky white, 7.5-12cm in diameter, rarely up to 15cm, solitary or clustered at the top of branchlets; bracteoles and sepals are arranged in a shingle-like manner, leathery, persistent; petals are 5-6, broadly obcordate, deeply lobed at the apex; stamens are numerous, filaments are connate only at the base; ovary is rectangular, 5-chambered, and the style is split at the apex. Capsule oblong, 5-sided, up to 3.5cm long. The seeds have wings at the tip.
