【English name】 Chinese Litse

[Other names] Litsea cubeba, peeling maple, flower shell firewood

[Source] Medicinal material source: the root and stem bark of the cypress tree of the Lauraceae family.

[Original form] Cinnamomum camphora is an evergreen shrub or small tree, up to 6m in height. The bark is gray-brown with gray-yellow block peeling; young branches are reddish-brown and glabrous, while old branches are dark brown and glabrous; the terminal buds are oval, with obtuse tips, and the scales are glabrous or only hairy on the upper part. Leaves are alternate; petiole is 1-2cm long, with soft hairs on the upper side; leaf blade is leathery, oblong or lanceolate, 5-10cm long, 2-3.5cm wide, with acute apex, cuneate base, entire margin, shiny green above, greenish gray below, glabrous on both sides, pinnate veins, 9-10 lateral veins on each side, midrib slightly raised below, and reticular pattern is not obvious. Dioecious; umbels axillary, peduncles; bracts caducous; tepals 6, equal in length, about 2mm; male flowers have 9-12 stamens, 4-chambered anthers, all introrseally dehiscent; female flowers have nearly spherical ovaries, styles with sparse soft hairs, stigmas with 2 lobes, and degenerate stamens filamentous with long soft hairs. The fruit is spherical or nearly spherical, about 6-8mm in diameter, with a short tip at the apex and a flat receptacle with persistent tepals at the base; the fruit pedicel is about 5mm long and quite stout. The fruit is red at first and turns black when ripe. The flowering period is August-September, and the fruiting period is May of the following year.
