[Properties] The dried fruit is oblong or elliptical, 1.5-2 cm long and 7-9 mm in diameter; the surface is brown or purple-brown, with raised irregular reticular wrinkles; there is a stalk mark at the base, and sometimes a thin stalk and a dish-shaped persistent calyx can be seen. The outer skin is thin and easy to fall off, revealing a pale yellow-brown core with irregular longitudinal grooves on its surface; the inner skin is tough and easy to peel off, usually containing one seed (the other ovule is generally undeveloped, and occasionally contains two seeds). The seeds are long oval, 1.2 to 1.5 cm long, about 5 mm in diameter, gray-brown with slightly concave brown veins, and a long oval membranous septum attached to the ventral side; the endosperm is hard and thick, yellow-white, rich in oil, the embryo is slender, and slightly fragrant. The seeds are bitter. The best ones are those that are dry, have plump seeds, are orange-yellow in color, and are not moldy.
