【English name】 RHIZOMA CURCUMAE

[Other names] Curcuma zedoaria, Curcuma zedoaria, Curcuma longa, Curcuma odorata, Stinky shit ginger

[Source] This product is the dried rhizome of Curcuma phaeocaulis Val., Curcuma Kwangsiensis SGLee et CF Liang or Curcuma wenyujin YH Chen et C. Ling, all of which belong to the Zingiberaceae family. The latter is commonly known as "Wen'eshu". Dig up the fruit after the stems and leaves wither in winter, wash it, steam or boil it until it is thoroughly cooked, dry it in the sun or at low temperature, and then remove the fibrous roots and impurities.

[Properties] Curcuma zedoaria: Oval, oblong, conical or long spindle-shaped, with a blunt tip and a blunt base, 2 to 8 cm long and 1.5 to 4 cm in diameter. The surface is grayish yellow to grayish brown, with raised upper segments, round, slightly concave root marks or residual root marks, some with a row of sunken bud marks on each side and round-like lateral rhizome marks, and some with visible knife marks. Heavy, solid texture, gray-brown to blue-brown in cross section, waxy, often with gray-brown powder attached, cortex and pith easily separated, endocortex with brown annular pattern. It has a slight fragrance and tastes slightly bitter and spicy.

[Identification] Cross section of this product: several rows of cork cells, sometimes removed. The cortex has scattered leaf trace vascular bundles; the endodermis is obvious. The pith is relatively wide, the vascular bundles are exo-tough and scattered, while the vascular bundles along the pith sheath are smaller and more densely arranged. The thin-walled cells are filled with gelatinized starch granules, and cells containing golden oily substances are scattered in the thin-walled tissue.

[Processing] Curcuma : remove impurities, soak briefly, wash, steam until soft, cut into thin slices, and dry.

【Nature and flavor】Pungent, bitter, warm.

[return through meridians] Return to the liver and spleen meridians.

【Functions and indications】Promote qi and resolve blood circulation, eliminate accumulation and relieve pain. Used for treating lumps and masses, amenorrhea due to blood stasis, distension and pain due to food accumulation, and early cervical cancer.

【Usage and Dosage】 6 to 9g.

【Note】 It is forbidden for pregnant women to use.

【Storage】 Store in a dry place to prevent moth damage.
