[Original form] Short-spiked pepper is an annual succulent herb, no more than 10 cm in height. Stems creeping, slender, linear, much branched, rooting at nodes, glabrous or sparsely hairy. There are 3-4 leaves in whorls, thin membrane; petiole is short, 1-3mm long; leaf blade is oblong or oblong, 5-12mm long, 3-7mm wide, apex is slightly concave or rounded, base is gradually narrowed or cuneate, both sides are covered with fine short soft hairs when young, then become glabrous, and there are often fine marginal hairs at the concave notch at the apex; leaf vein is 1. The spike inflorescence is terminal, solitary, longer than the leaves, 1-2 cm long and about 1 mm in diameter; the peduncle is longer than the petiole, 5-10 mm long, and both it and the inflorescence axis are glabrous; the flowers are slightly dense; the bracts are nearly round, shield-shaped, with short petioles, 0.5 mm in diameter; the filaments are extremely short, and the anthers are nearly round; the ovary is obovate, and the stigma is terminal and glabrous. The berries are ovate-oblong, about 0.8mm long and 0.4mm in diameter, and are hairless. Flowering period is from April to September.

[Habitat distribution] Ecological environment: Growing on shady and moist rocks or trees at an altitude of 1400-2300m.

[Properties] Identification of properties: The stem is fleshy, thin and cylindrical, twisted, multi-branched, 4-8cm long; there are fine longitudinal lines on the surface. When flattened, the leaves are obovate, 2-8mm long, 1-5mm wide, with one vein and almost sessile. There are often spike inflorescences at the top of the branches. Slight odor, light taste.
