[Source] Medicinal material source: the root and whole herb of Rhodiola yunnanensis of the Crassulaceae family.

[Original form] Rhodiola rosea is a perennial herb. The root neck is thick and long, straight up to 2 cm, unbranched or rarely branched, with ovate-triangular scales at the tip. The flower stem is solitary or a few in number, erect, and can reach 100 cm in height. 3 leaves are arranged in whorls, rarely opposite, and sessile; leaves are ovate-lanceolate, elliptic to ovate-oblong, 4-9cm long, 2-6cm wide, obtuse at the apex, rounded cuneate at the base, and sparsely serrated at the edge. The inflorescence is a thyrse, 5-15cm long, with multiple trifurcated branches; the flowers are unisexual, rarely bisexual, and dioecious; the male flowers are small and numerous, with 4 sepals, lanceolate, 0.5mm long; 4 petals, yellow-green, spoon-shaped, 1.5mm long, and 8 stamens, which are shorter than the petals; the female flowers have 4 sepals and 4 petals, each with green or purple linear petals, 1.2mm long; 4 scales, nearly semicircular; 4 carpels, ovate and divergent, fused at the base. The follicles are star-shaped, 3-3.2 mm long, with the tip folded outward and the beak 1 mm long. The flowering period is from May to July, and the fruiting period is from July to August.

[Habitat distribution] Ecological environment: Growing on rocks under forests on hillsides or on rocks beside rivers at an altitude of 2000-4000m.

[Usage and Dosage] For oral use: decocted in water, 6-12g; or soaked in wine. For external use: take appropriate amount and mash it for application.
