【Original form】 ① Plantago

[Habitat distribution] It is produced in all places, with higher production in Jiangxi, Anhui and Jiangsu.

[Properties] The dried whole plant is 10 to 17 cm long. The roots are small and whisker-like. The leaves are gray-green and curled, flattened into a broad ovate or elliptical shape, with 5 to 7 longitudinal veins and slender petioles. The top of the flower stalk has the capsule petals and persistent calyx left after the capsule cover cracked, and sometimes there are still unopened flowers. It has a slight odor, a bitter taste and is mucous.

[Pharmacological Action] Anti-tumor effect: Plantain extract has a weak inhibitory effect on Ehrlich carcinoma and sarcoma-180.
