What to do if you are burned by acidic liquid

What to do if you are burned by acidic liquid

Nowadays, many liquids are chemical products. These chemical products are mixed with different additives. Special attention should be paid to their proper use and care through some methods. Sometimes, the skin may be burned accidentally. Acidic liquids will act like burns after burning the skin, which can cause many adverse reactions on the patient's skin. It is necessary to find some emergency methods.

1. Estimation of burn depth

Burns are generally divided into first-degree burns, second-degree burns, and third-degree burns.

The symptoms of first-degree burns are: redness, swelling, heat, pain, sensitivity, dry surface without blisters, and no skin breaks.

The symptoms of superficial second-degree burns are: severe pain, sensitivity, blisters, and after the blister skin falls off, the wound surface is evenly red and has obvious edema.

The symptoms of deep second-degree burns are: insensitivity, presence or absence of blisters, pale base with occasional red spots, moist wound surface, pain when plucking hair, and normal anatomical structure of the hair roots. After a few days, if there is no infection, a network of embolic blood vessels may appear.

Symptoms of third-degree burns are: the skin loses its pain sensation, becomes inelastic, dry, and free of blisters. It becomes leathery, waxy, brown, or carbonized. It is not painful to pluck hair, and there is no normal anatomical structure of the hair roots. After a few days, large, tree-like embolic blood vessels may appear.

2. Emergency treatment of burns and scalds

If you have just been burned or scalded, you can cool the injured area to prevent residual heat from damaging the deep skin tissue and relieve pain.

Treatment method:

1. Use white wine to rinse the wound. Ordinary white wine (20-50 degree white wine, not alcohol) is enough to quickly absorb the residual heat of the burn.

2. If you don’t have alcohol, you can use pure water to wash rice, and use the second rice washing water to rinse the wound to cool it down;

3. Or rinse with cold water to cool down.

All three methods above can be used, choose the most convenient one as appropriate. But please remember: Do not use raw or cold water to rinse or soak the wound, otherwise it will cause heat and toxins to penetrate into the body, causing skin ulcers, aggravating the injury, and greatly increasing the chance of scarring.

Treatment of first degree burns:

If you have aloe vera at home, you can apply aloe vera juice to the wound to play a therapeutic role; if not, you can go to the pharmacy to buy some balm or burn ointment, but these are medicines for treating shallow burns and are only suitable for first-degree burns. Deep burns require professional burn medicines.

Treatment of second degree burns:

1. First, use the cooling method taught above to cool the injured area;

2. If there is any foreign matter in the wound, remove it carefully when washing the wound with rice water for the second time.

3. If you have burn medicine, use it in time. If you don’t have it, you can refer to the treatment methods for first-degree burns to alleviate the injury. Then send to the hospital for treatment in time or find professional burn and scald medicine treatment.

4. Do not bandage severe burns and scalds. Exposure therapy is beneficial to injury recovery, can speed up recovery and reduce the chance of scarring.

5. If there are signs of fever, you need to take antipyretics; if you feel thirsty, you need to drink light salt water to replenish water; if the wound is inflamed, you can use antibiotics to reduce inflammation, such as cephalexin, erythromycin, gentamicin, etc.

Second-degree burns are more serious burns, causing blisters or peeling of the skin. The peeling areas will ooze fluid and can easily become infected, causing inflammation of the wound, so they need to be treated with care.

Large-area second-degree burns can cause dehydration. If you feel thirsty, you need to take light salt water orally or go to the hospital for infusion treatment. If the burns are severe, you will have a fever or even shock, and you should go to the hospital for infusion in time, otherwise your life will be in danger.

The wound of second-degree burns should be cleaned every morning and evening. You can use the second rice washing water from pure water to wash the wound, or you can use warm boiled water or light salt water to wash the wound (it is recommended to use the second rice washing water, which is good for the recovery of the injury). If there is no fever or shock, you can apply skin oil burn medicine 3 to 4 times a day, and clean the wound with rice water from the second time in the morning and evening, which can be effectively treated.
