[Source] Medicinal material source: The root of the white spear plant of the Oleaceae family.

[Original form] Deciduous tree, about 10m high. The bark is grayish white. The buds are naked, densely covered with brown hairs, the twigs are gray-brown, with longitudinal ridges, sparsely covered with soft hairs and hairs, and the lenticels are small and sparsely scattered. There are narrow grooves on the rachis, all densely covered with brown hairs; there are 9-15 leaflets, leathery, elliptic to lanceolate-elliptic, 3-8cm long, 1.5-4cm wide, with acute or obtuse apex, cuneate to broad cuneate base, slightly curled leaf margin, densely covered with brown hairs on the upper side, densely covered with white soft hairs and yellow hairs on the lower side, especially densely covered on the veins and leaf margins, and the leaflets are nearly sessile. The panicle grows at the end of the current year's branches or in the upper leaf axils; the bracts are linear, 2-3mm long; the pedicels are thin, about 3mm long, and densely covered with yellow hairs like the bracts; the calyx is cup-shaped, about 1mm long, truncated or shallowly lobed at the apex to form a broad triangle, slightly pubescent; the corolla is white, with linear lobes, about 3mm long; the bisexual flowers have 2 stamens extending out of the anther; the pistil is about 2.5mm long, columnar and clavate, and 2 shallowly lobed. The samaras are spoon-shaped, with very flat wings extending below the middle of the nut. The flowering period is June, and the fruiting period is September-October.

【Habitat distribution】Ecological environment: Distributed in Guangxi and Yunnan.

[Properties] Identification of properties: The roots are mostly cut into irregular cross-sections, which are oval in shape, 2-6cm in diameter and 2-3mm thick. The outer skin is yellowish brown or reddish brown, and the heartwood is yellowish white. It has a faint smell and tastes bitter and slightly astringent. The best ones are those with thick skin, yellow-white heartwood and strong bitter taste.

【Nature and flavor】 Bitter; cold

【Functions and indications】 Clears away heat; promotes urination; laxative. Mainly used for heat stranguria, stranguria caused by stones, and constipation caused by heat accumulation

[Usage and Dosage] For oral use: decoct in water, 10-15g, double the amount for fresh product; or grind into powder, 3-6g.
