[Source] It is a decoction of the branches of Dichirostachys glomerata (Forsk) Chiov., a plant of the genus Dichirostachys in the Leguminosae family.

[Original form] A thorny shrub or small tree, 6 to 12 meters tall, with grayish white bark. The leaves are bipinnate, with 5 to 10 pairs of pinnae, a club-shaped gland between each pinna, and many leaflets, which are oblong and linear, 4 to 8 mm long and 1 to 1.5 mm wide, slightly covered with short soft hairs. It blooms from August to September, with spike inflorescences 6 to 8 cm long and with a peduncle; the flowers are fragrant below; the lower asexual flowers are light pink or light purple, slightly larger; the upper flowers are bisexual, mostly yellow, and smaller. The pods are in the shape of heads, 6 to 13 mm wide, glabrous, dark brown, wavy or curved, cracked, and persistent. Distributed in Guangdong Province.

[Habitat distribution] Growing in tropical shrubs, tropical savannah and transitional forests. Distributed in Guangzhou.

[Chemical composition] Contains catechol and catechin tannic acid (content about 65.1%), which is about 50% higher than that of imported catechin paste.

[Preparation] Take thick branches with a diameter of 5 to 10 cm, split them into small thin pieces with a length and width of 2 to 5 cm and a thickness of 0.2 to 0.5 cm, put them in a clay pot or aluminum pot, add 10 times the water and boil them. The decoction will turn from brown to brown. Filter it after about 6 to 7 hours, and repeat the extraction of the residue 1 to 2 times. The filtrates were combined and concentrated on a water bath to obtain a brown-brown catecholamine paste.

【Nature and flavor】 Bitter, astringent, and cool.

【Functions and indications】 Stops bleeding and diarrhea, heals sores and relieves pain. Used for bleeding from gastric and duodenal ulcers.

【Usage and Dosage】 1.5 points. swallow.

[Additional prescription] Bleeding from gastric and duodenal ulcers: Swallow 0.5 g of Baile Catechu paste, 1 to 2 times a day.
