[Original form] Climbing shrub or vine, more than 3m tall. Branchlets have obvious lenticels. Leaves are alternate; petioles are 0.8-1cm long; leaf blades are firm and papery, oblanceolate or narrowly obovate, 6-12cm long, 2-4cm wide, with broadly acute to acuminate or obtuse apex, base cuneate, entire, with many lateral veins, often connected into marginal veins, inflorescences in racemes, axillary or lateral on leafless branches of the following year. The pedicels are 3-4mm long and pubescent; the bracts are lanceolate or triangular, with ciliate and glandular dots; the flowers are 4-merous, 2-3mm long; the calyx base is united to 1/3 to 1/2, the sepals are ovate or lanceolate, with sparse ciliate and densely covered with glandular dots; the petals are light green or pink to red, separate, elliptic or ovate, with obvious glandular dots, and the inside and edges are densely covered with papillae; the stamens extend out of the corolla in male flowers, about 1 times the length of the petals, only the base is fused with the petals, and the back of the anthers is densely covered with glandular dots; the pistil exceeds the corolla or is as long as the corolla in female flowers, the ovary is urceolate, and the stigma is flat or slightly shield-shaped. The fruit is spherical or oblate, 1-1.5cm in diameter, red, with longitudinal ribs and more or less glandular dots, sepals fall off, and if present are curled; the fruit pedicel is about 1cm long. The flowering period is from June to August, and the fruiting period is from November to January of the following year.
