[Source] Medicinal material source: The root of Elaeocarpus sphenanthera, a plant of the Elaeocarpus family.

[Original form] Elaeocarpus chinensis is an evergreen small tree, 3-7m tall. The young branches are pubescent, the leaves are thin and leathery, the petioles are 1.5-2cm long and slightly swollen at the apex; the leaf blades are ovate-lanceolate or lanceolate, 5-8cm long and 2-3cm wide, shiny on the upper side, initially hairy on the lower side, then becoming hairless, with black glandular dots and small blunt teeth on the edges. The racemes are axillary, 3-5cm long; the flowers are bisexual or unisexual; bisexual flowers: 5 sepals, lanceolate; 5 petals, oblong, 3mm long, undivided; 8-10 stamens, anthers dehiscing at the apex, without appendages, ovary 2-chambered. The drupe is oval, 7-8mm long, with 2 straight grooves in the endocarp. The flowering period is April-May, and the fruiting period is autumn.

[Habitat distribution] Ecological environment: Grown in evergreen forests at an altitude of 350-850m.

【Cultivation】 Biological characteristics: It prefers warm and humid environment. It is mainly distributed in subtropical areas, requires sufficient sunlight and abundant rainfall, and the plant grows rapidly when the suitable temperature is 25-30℃. It can safely overwinter when the temperature drops to 0℃. It is best to grow it in sandy loam with deep soil and good drainage. It is not tolerant to waterlogging and is not suitable for seedling cultivation or afforestation in areas with many low-lying areas and high groundwater levels.
