[Original morphology] Longdong crabapple is a shrub to a small tree, 5-10m high. The twigs are stout, with short soft hairs when young, which soon fall off and become purple-brown or dark brown when old. Simple leaves are alternate; petioles are 1.5-4cm long, with sparse short soft hairs; stipules are linear-lanceolate, with sparse glandular teeth on the margin, 6-10mm long, and slightly soft hairs; leaf blades are ovate or broadly ovate, 5-8cm long, 4-6cm wide, with rounded or truncated base, finely and sharply serrated on the margin, usually 3-lobed, and sparsely short soft hairs on the underside. Flowers bisexual; umbel racemes, with 4-10 flowers; pedicels 2.5-3.5cm long; bracts linear-lanceolate, caducous; flowers white, 1.5-2cm in diameter; calyx tube densely pubescent outside; calyx lobes 5, glabrous outside, pubescent inside; petals 5, broadly obovate, with short claws at base, sparsely pubescent on upper inner surface; stamens 20; styles 3, rarely 4 or 2, ovary inferior. The pear fruit is oval or obovate, 1-1.5cm in diameter, yellow-red, with calyx lobes falling off and a fruit pedicel 2-3.5cm long. The flowering period is May-June, and the fruiting period is July-August.
