[Original form] Annual or biennial herb. The stem height is 25 to 90 cm. The stem is slightly quadrangular, bare or young with short soft hairs. Leaves are opposite; oblong-lanceolate, olive-shaped or linear, 2-9 cm long, 7-15 mm wide, papery, narrow at both ends, entire, with small raised lines on both sides, and petiole 3-10 mm long. Flowers are sessile, 3 to 6 or more, clustered in leaf axils; bracts are ovate or elliptic, 6 to 8 mm long, with bracteoles about half the length of the calyx; calyx is about 8 mm long, with 5 lobes, linear-lanceolate, and coarsely hairy; corolla is light blue or whitish, about 12 mm long, with the upper part of the corolla tube enlarged, 2-lipped, bald, 4-lobed, 1-lobed at the upper part; pointed at the apex, 3-lobed at the lower part, with rounded apex; 4 stamens, in pairs, 2 longer, not extending; 1 pistil, style linear, stigma 2-lobed; ovary superior, 2-chambered. The capsule is oblong, with 2 longitudinal lines, 10 mm long, 3 mm wide, brown, and the 2 lobes split open when ripe. Seeds are numerous, oblate, up to 1 mm long, and light brown. Flowering period is from July to August.
