The corymbose cymes are terminal or axillary, 10-16cm long, 20-25cm wide, with linear bracts, 3-7mm long; the calyx is cup-shaped, 5-lobed at the apex, the lobes are triangular-ovate, pink, and covered with yellow-brown short hairs and inconspicuous glandular dots on the outside; the corolla is white, the corolla tube is slender, about 1cm long, 5-lobed at the apex, the lobes are ovate, about 5mm long; there are 4 stamens, extending out of the corolla together with the style. The fruit is spherical or obovate, 5-10mm in diameter, green, blue-purple when ripe, and the persistent calyx is red; the flowering and fruiting period is from June to February of the following year. Anti-pathogenic microbial effect: The decoction of Isatis indigotica has a bactericidal effect on various Shigella dysenteriae in test tubes; the experiment also showed that Shigella dysenteriae, whether sensitive or resistant to furacilin, sulfathiazole, and berberine, are very sensitive to Isatis indigotica. It also has a killing effect on meningococci. It also has a killing effect on the Pomona group of Treponema colitis, the Walden type of the icterohaemorrhagiae group, and the Hesperidian type of the spirochete. Folium Isatidis is used clinically for a variety of viral infections, but no reports of antiviral trials in the laboratory have been found so far. [Toxicity] The median lethal dose of isocyanidin for mice by oral administration is 8g/kg; intraperitoneal injection is 5g/kg. [Additional prescription] The leaves of this herb are relatively large. "Compendium of Materia Medica" says: "Its stems and leaves are all dark green", so it is named Daqing.
